Hot Cross Bun Facts!

• Hot Cross buns were traditionally eaten at breakfast time, hot from the oven. They were once sold by street vendors who sang a little song about them.
• "Hot cross buns, Hot cross buns, One a penny, two a penny, Hot cross buns."
• Hot cross buns baked on Good Friday were supposed to have magical powers. It is said that you could keep a hot cross bun which had been made on Good Friday for at least a year and itwouldn't go mouldy.
• Hardened old hot cross buns are supposed to protect the house from fire
• Sailors took hot cross buns to sea with them to prevent shipwreck.
• A bun baked on Good Friday andleft to get hard could be grated up and put in some warm milk to stop an upset tummy.

Bakestone Bread

A few weeks back, I was approached by Bakestone Bread, who i've done a few reviews for already, and asked if I would like to be part of The Baker's Dozen.
The Baker's Dozen is a group of 13 selected bloggers and journalists who have been chosen to sample and provide feedback on various Bakestone products. Of course, I jumped at the chance and was soon sent my first batch of products to review...

White Hoofers

White Hoofers (2 pack) - These were absolutely gorgeous! Nice and soft and a great size too - I packed mine with a large burger, lettuce, cheese, cucumber etc and it was delicious. The bread itself wasn't too heavy which meant that although it filled me, I wasn't overly stuffed - very impressed!

Poppy Seed Nudger

Poppy Seed Nudger (2 pack) - Perfect filled with chicken tikka and salad. There weren't too many seeds which I find a problem with alot of brands, but there was definately enough to give these a great taste which both myself and my kids loved. Again, the texture of these were perfect and I loved the size of them - you can fit quite a bit in there.

Brown Nudgers

Brown Nudgers (4 pack) - I've never been a huge fan of brown bread, but these nudgers have convinced me otherwise. Far from the cardboardy taste I expected, these had a nice flavour which blended well with a salad sarnie and left me wanting more. Not too dry and nicely soft make these an ideal healthy option - even my kids were impressed!

Toothsomes

Toothsomes (2 pack) - These were my favourites of them all. Giant toothsomes which took a couple of hot dogs to fill and tasted divine. Although they look a little hard to get your mouth around, the softness of them allows you to squash them down a little and the bread is very easy to chew. I also found that the bread didn't go soggy when I put my hot dogs in which made it all the more pleasurable to eat. Perfect with all fillings too.

My Review: As regular readers of my blog will know, i'm pretty new to trying Batiste and I was incredibly sceptical before I tried it - as i'm sure many of you are/were. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised with the results when I finally did use it (read my previous review here).

In return for an honest review (as always), I was sent a 200ml bottle of new Batiste Cherry Dry Shampoo to try .....and I couldn't wait!

Admittedly, as soon as I knew that my bottle was en route, I stopped washing my hair in order to give it a thorough test (much to my kids disgust).

Tearing open the package like a kid on Christmas morning, I was met with a gorgeous tin covered with pictures of small cherries in fresh, light colours .....beautiful and so girlie too! Almost tripping over myself, I ran upstairs and grabbed my brush. My hair was slick to say the least, it had been around 4 days since it's last wash, and it was certainly ready for a burst of life. I then preceded to apply the Batiste Cherry to my hair as per the instructions. I seriously wish my blog had a 'scratch n sniff' so you could experience the gorgeous cherry fragrance, it wasn't at all what I expected. Most cherry scented things have a sickly tinge to them, but this just made my nose twitch with delight and reminded me of happy summer days. My partner gave me a hug a few hours later and couldn't stop sniffing my hair - he said I smelled of Love Hearts/Refreshers and I can kinda see his point.

Apart from the great smell, Batiste delivers clean, healthy, shiny hair without the hassle of having to wash thoroughly, although do follow the instructions carefully! When they say 'hold the can 30cm from your head' then I strongly suggest you do, as any closer, and it can make dark hair look slightly white - much the same as spraying on deodorant too close to your armpit.

All in all I absolutely loved this and for the price, you really can't go wrong! It's so simple to use, eliminates the need for perfume, and leaves you feeling confident in the knowledge that your hair looks amazing!

Denman D3 Kiss Brush

Stuck for gift ideas this Valentines Day? Fear not as Denman have come to the rescue with the gorgeously cute D3 Kiss Brush. Check out my earlier post for more information and other colours. I was recently lucky enough to be sent one of these to review.

As you can see, the brush comes in clear packaging so you can see exactly what you're getting for you money. To celebrate Valentines Day, it is decorated with kisses giving it that little bit of something special.

The brush is 8 inches in total - slightly smaller than average and ideal to fit in your handbag. The brush head is just over 4 inches in length with 3 1/2 inches of bristles which is the perfect size to provide tat free hair! My own hair is quite fine and the brush went through without any trouble at all. Snapped hair was also kept to a minimum compared to my usual brush. My daughter's hair is sligtly thicker and once again, the Denman D3 Kiss brush sailed through it with ease - no snagging and no pain! The brush is easy to hold and feels comfortable in your hand, although it is slightly top heavy.

These brushes are not only cute and girlie, but practical and easy to use. They provide tangle free hair with very little effort and are easy cleaned.
